Money-Honey, My calico ball fetching baby cat (Part 2)

(…continued)
Money-Honey had so easily tricked me into giving “free rides” up and down the stairs. While her brothers and sister had to climb up and down them on their own.
About 4 months had passed when I discovered, or should I say rediscovered just how smart she is. Like most kittens, They all enjoyed a tossed milk ring or two. They would bat them around or lie there and chew on them.
One day while shopping at a department store I passed one of the quarter machines by the automatic doors. One of them was a bouncy ball machine. I thought, “Hmm, I wonder if the kittens would play with one of these?” Since it was only a $0.25 investment I grabbed one.
For the most part, the bouncy ball introduction was a complete failure.
They would run after it,(only when I rolled it) hit it with their paws a few times then go off to somewhere else.
Slowly one by one we found homes for all the kittens but money-honey. That was when her true cleverness revealed itself to us.
She started taking more interest in being held, patted and played with.
She would bat the ball around alot more. She still didn’t like it bounced, not yet anyway.
By the time she was about one year old, I was able to bounce (toss easily not a “how high can I get this to go?”) the ball into the room and she would chase it, jump for it and had absolutely no fear of it.
She would want to play for however long I wanted to toss that ball, sometimes longer.
After a while I’d get tired of tossing the ball and then going and getting it where it stopped just to toss it again. One night I had tossed that ball for the twentith time I think when I called it quits.
Money-Honey came over to my feet and sat their and meowed and meowed. She wanted to keep playing.
I told her I was done chasing that ball for her and stated doing what ever it was I was doing at the time. (probably watching TV or playing a game on the computer lol) A few minutes later I hear the ball bouncing on the hardwood floor. (Not a loud noise but like a drop from about 3 inches would make) I looked over and there Money-Honey was picking the ball up in her mouth and then dropping it so it would bounce a little and roll. She would bat at it and chase it. I chuckled alittle then I went back to what I was doing.
She apparently didn’t think the bounces were high enough because about 15 minutes or so I felt something hit my foot and heard her meow. I looked down and there she was staring up at me with a purr like meow. (If you have a cat you know what I mean by purr like meow)
And at my feet was the little bouncy ball. I picked it up looked at her said half jokingly, “so, you wanna play fetch now little doggy?”
I gave the ball a toss into the other room and off she went, like a bullet. Figuring she wouldn’t be back I went back to what I was doing.
A couple minutes later, thump thump thump. She was back and so wasn’t the ball. And that is how it came to be that I have a precious calico baby cat that loves to play fetch.

Money-Honey, My calico ball fetching baby cat (Part 1)

September 12th, 2009 by Two-Legs

This post is about my pet cat, Money-Honey. Money-Honey was born in 2001. (If I remember correctly)
She had 3 brothers and a sister. Her mom decided she was going to have them in our bedroom, which was located upstairs.
I remember when they were first born that this tri-colored little kitten was particuliarly curious and was moving all around the blanket lined cardboard box much sooner them the others.
Later on I found out just how smart she is. LOL
After their eyes were open, mama cat decided it was time to introduce them to the litter box. (which was located down stairs)
Mama would grab each one by the back of the neck and carry them down the steps. and then when they were all down stairs she would lead them over to the litter box and the food and water dish.

Pause in story, For those who are wondering why we didn’t move the water, food and litter box upstairs. we did plce a litter box in the upstairs bathroom and there were food and water dishes set up in the corner of our bedroom. (Mama cat apparently didn’t like change.)

Money-Honey, being the ever so curious risk taking kitten she was.
Some how injured her paw around the time the kittens were able to go up and down the stairs on their own.
One morning I found her sitting at the top of the stairs looking down, mewwing at me all the while holding her front paw up.
All her siblings had gone downstairs for their morning meal.
So, I picked her up patted her and carried her down the stairs.
She limped over to the food and water dish and proceded to eat.
Later, after they ate. All the kittens worked their way back up over the stairs for the mid day nap. But not Money-Honey. She went over and laid on the rug in the living room.
That evening after they all had their supper and went back upstairs, Money-Honey decided she wanted to go back up.
She sat at the bottom of the stairs and cried and cried.
I picked her up, made of her and took her upstairs to the box.
This was the start of a daily routine that lasted for over a week.
I was starting to get concerned about her front paw and was contemplating making an appointment with the local vet when I caught on to what was happening.
I caught her romping around the bedroom floor tackleing and play fighting with one of her sisters. She was fully useing her front paw and showed no sign what so ever of any pain.
And like clock work, when the others went down stairs she stopped at the top and meowed and meowed for me to carry her down stairs.
When I refused to show up and get her, she went down on her own and didn’t show no sign of pain. No limping, no more meowing.
The little smartie had tricked me into giving her free “rides” up and down the stairs. LOL
